December 6, 2025, will remain a landmark date in the history of the Cape Verdean Alliance of Lyon.

In Lyon, in the presence of His Excellency Mr. Ulisses Correia e Silva, Prime Minister of Cape Verde, an official tribute was paid to Carlos Alberto Moreira Gonçalves, co-founder and first president of our association.

An artist, engraver, and figure deeply committed to the Cape Verdean community, Carlos Moreira dedicated much of his life to promoting Cape Verdean culture, identity, and solidarity within the diaspora.

During the ceremony, the Government of Cape Verde posthumously awarded him the **Medal of Cultural Merit (Second Class)**.

The Prime Minister presented the award to Carlos Moreira’s family—specifically his wife—in recognition of his artistic work, his civic engagement, and his contribution to showcasing Cape Verde beyond its borders.

This tribute holds special significance for our association. The space that now hosts our activities bears the name **Espace Carlos Moreira** (Carlos Moreira Space), serving to preserve his memory and pass on his legacy to future generations.

Through his life’s work, Carlos Moreira demonstrated that an association could become a genuine bridge between generations, regions, and cultures.

The Cape Verdean Alliance extends its thanks to the Government of Cape Verde, the Prime Minister, Carlos Moreira’s family, and everyone who took part in this deeply moving ceremony.

**His commitment, his work, and his vision continue to guide our association.**
